It is not easy to travel with children, but you would like to show the world to him or her so much! If you have a feeling that you have already seen everything possible in Copenhagen, and you still have some energy to perceive and learn something new, I offer you to arrange a family guided tour across the Denmark based on the following routes:

1. A trip to Legoland and the waterpark Lalandia. In Legoland everything is made of Lego building blocks – models of the world-known buildings, fairy heroes and even animals and birds – namely, over 40 million blocks. Nearby there is the largest indoor waterpark in Denmark - Lalandia, which is also advised to be visited, as you have already come here. Read more about the trip to Legoland and Lalandia here.

2. A trip to the shipbuilding museum and the village of Vikings in Roskilde (Vikingeskibsmuseet Roskilde). In the village of Vikings local enthusiasts show their tribute to history, creating replicas of Viking ships. The Vikings museum displays various items of their uneven lives: swords, helmets, armours, axes, teeth of sea creatures, skates made of wild animal bones, as well as dishware of the time. Read more about the trip to shipbuilding museum here.

3. Trip to the mysterious Kronborg castle (Kronborg slot). This magnificent, severe and inaccessible at first sight castle was erected over 600 years ago. Shakespeare, despite the fact that he had never been to the castle, managed to describe it in his Hamlet tragedy in the way that this place is still visited by over 200 000 tourists per year. Read more about the trip to Kronborg castle here.

In the line of associations with Denmark, the author of fairy-tales Andersen, is probably, the leader. Pyotr Vail in his film and book "Genius loci" also associated Copenhagen with Andersen. It is said that the total of all his published books translated in nearly all languages of the world can be compared to only Shakespeare and the Bible.

The most famous and widely visited place in the town of Odense is Andersen’s house museum. It includes the collection of writer’s personal items, his manuscripts and letters, illustrations to his fairy-tales and his personal library. It was decided to open the museum to the 100-year anniversary of Andersen’s birthday (he was born 2 April 1805). The house museum has been restored in the tiniest detail. The neighbourhood around the museum has been renovated too: stone pavement has been renewed, low buildings have been restored, some outbuildings have even been brought here from other places. In general, the locals tried their best to create the atmosphere of a town of that time.

Andersen’s house is adjoined to a large modern glass-and-concrete building, where the main exposition is placed. This contemporary building is so harmonious in the urban landscape that one can hardly notice it from the old little street. The museum displays Andersen’s personal items, his books, translated into many languages, paintings, where plots of his fairy-tales and novels were used. The flow of respectful visitors is not decreasing.

After the museum we will go around the town of Odense: a pedestrian street with numerous sculptures from Andersen’s tales с, St. Knud’s (Canute’s) Cathedral, the oldest printing house, the Town hall and other places of interest.

Tour length: 3 hours

Tour price: 250 euros for 2 adults and a child (under 17). The price includes entrance fees to Andersen’s house museum, a tour around the city centre and museum, guide’s services. Food, drinks and transport are paid extra. The return transfer to Odense can be organized from your hotel in Copenhagen (or Billund) by car. In this case the price of the tour rises by 300 euros.

Specifics of the tour: the trip will first of all be exciting for children who know the works of the great tale-teller, but it can also be interesting for the adults, who may as well have a look at the way the famous fairy-tale writer lived. The trip is quite useful, entertaining and cognitive.
