Best regards, Denmark Travel team.

Sightseeing tours on a bus is quite a budget option - hop on / hop off buses circulate through the city center. You are on a bus, listening to information about different places of interest. You can get off the bus wherevere you like to take a picture and then get back on track with the next bus. The price for a day ticket starts from 175 DKK.

Basic information on the hop-on / off buses in Copenhagen:
- Three different routes, including more than 30 stops
- The ticket is valid for 24 hours
- You can get on / off unlimited number of times.

Hop on / hop off buses

Bus hop on / hop off

Route 1 - The Little Mermaid. The trip takes 1 hour and 20 minutes. Along the way you will see: Amalienborg Palace, the promenade Langelinje, fountain "Gefion", Little Mermaid, Rosenberg Palace and Nyhavn area.

Route 2 - Carlsberg. The trip takes 30 minutes. The bus runs on this route from May to September. During this time, you will see the Planetarium, Copenhagen Zoo, Carlsberg Brewery, Frederigsberg alley, entertainment center DGI, Glyptothek and Christiansborg.

Route 3 - Christiania. The journey takes 45 minutes and includes a visit to the following locations: Central Station, entertainment center DGI, Tivoli amusement park, the library "Black Diamond", Glyptothek, Christiansborg palace and Christiania area.

A tip: you can get a ticket covering all three hop on / hop off routes, which is valid for 2 days.

Hop on / hop off buses

Departure point: in front of the central train station, near Radisson Blu Royal hotel.  You can hop on the bus at any stop in the city. Do not forget that there is a free shuttle bus from the cruise terminals to the town, if you came with a cruise to Copenhagen.

Departure time: The Little Mermaid: 10:00 am to 4:30 pm - every 30 minutes
Carlsberg: 10:00 am to 4:30 pm - every 60 minutes
Christiania: 10:00 am to 4:30 pm - every 60 minutes

Cons hop on / off buses:

1. First of all, it is expensive.Three routes and the ticket at 175 DKK (25 euros per person) to go by bus without an opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to listen to the guided tour recorded many years ago is not a great delight at 25 euros.

2. Long waiting time.

You waist a lot of time to wait for the buses, since some of them run every 30 minutes whereas the others only every hour, although the stops are close to each other. The time you spend waiting for the bus, you could walk to the next sight.

3. Bus working hours – everything stops working very early. Tourist buses stop their work at five o’clock. Considering the fact that they start at 10 in the morning, there is little time for the any trips.

If you want to have enough time to see everything, get unique information about the city and ask any questions you have – I advise you to look at section ”Guided tours”.

A free guided tour is a walk through Copenhagen on your own. If you are short in time for sightseeing tours or boat trips, you can explore the city center:
- walk through the "pedestrian street" Strøget;
- admire the fountains and architecture;
- take a picture of "living sculptures", etc.
This tour will take approximately 1 hour, without shopping of course.

We have developed an interactive city map for the city center. The map shows the most important point of interest in Copenhagen, which you can visit on your own:
- Pedestrian street
- City Hall
- The Marble Church
- The Round Tower
- Christiansborg
- Amalienborg palace and many others.

You can also visit the amusement park "Tivoli", but be aware, that even without attractions a visit to "Tivoli" will take more than one hour.

Here are listed the most popular places in the city. Use the mouse and the cursor "left" and "right" to navigate.

Besides that, you can arrange a boat trip on the Harbour Ferry for 24 DKK per person. Modern, beautiful and high-speed city ferries sail on the canal from Little Mermaid through Opera to the Nyhavn, stopping near library "Black Diamond", then on the embankment Islands Brygge and at the New Opera House.

City ferries sail on a schedule, which you can find on each of the stops. This ferry trip does not cover the picturesque small channels in the city, but will give you possibility to see the city as it is, without embellishment and tourist glamour. During the trip you will see new areas, where tourist boats do not sail. Read more about city boats here.

Q58, Atlantic City - “Right on the water”, traveled as a couple

"We enjoyed our stay although not the most comfortable room we've stayed in. My wife found the bed to be uncomfortable and the room was very warm. We ended up opening a window for part of the night to try to cool down. The room itself was compact, but not cramped, and the breakfast was nice. The view is great and we discovered we could hop on a water taxi just down the canal a bit."

d1471147, Edinburgh, United Kingdom - “Beautiful views, lovely hotel but a bit too warm!”

"Stayed here for a weekend. We were in one of the rooms on the top floor. The views were amazing, and the hotel is very close to many attractions, only ~15 minutes walk to tivoli/main train station. There is a see-through window into the bedroom from the shower and the door to the bathroom is also see-through which was a bit odd, would have preferred more privacy. Also, the room was extremely hot. Had the window open all night, which unfortunately means you can't close one of the jalousie and it was still roasting!  Overall though the hotel is great, and the great views and location totally outweigh the odd bathroom!"

heyitskelly, Durham, United Kingdom - “Great location but not perfect”, traveled as a couple

"The hotel is located in a great area, about 15 mins walk from the central train station and very close to the town (we didn't use public transport for our whole trip in Copenhagen).

The room was basic, but fine for us, and it initially appeared clean and tidy. The window from the bathroom into the bedroom is a bit weird, especially if you are showering and your other half forgets and opens the jalousie - some boats pass by the hotel very close! This might not have been as much of a problem, if you were on the upper floor.

The housekeeping left a little to be desired. On our second day, when we came back to the hotel we discovered that the black blanket/cover that had been on our bed the previous night had been removed. It wasn't a huge deal as we still had the duvets, but the room was cold and it would have been nice to have the extra warmth. On the third day when we came back we were disappointed that our room hadn't been cleaned at all - towels were, where we left them (and wet) and the bed hadn't been made. This was after 6/7pm so there were no staff around for us to ask. It's not the cheapest hotel in the world so for them to take such little care was a bit of a let down.

The breakfast was fine - pastries, bread rolls, cheese and ham, with hot drinks free from a machine in the reception area all day and night. Overall the stay was fine and we really enjoyed our time in Copenhagen, but I doubt we would return to this hotel without some changes in their housekeeping policy."

emmy_7, Maryland - “Amazing location”, traveled as a couple

"We do like boats, its true, but who could fail to love this place? The only drawback is that its not a large hotel, so book early. Rooms are either right on the water level, or a floor above. We came eye to eye with a cormorant one morning. You are located a few blocks from the main train station so it was an easy walk. The breakfast was convenient, and the staff kind and helpful."

Value: 10               Sleep Quality: 10               Service: 10

GoochFamily, Kitchener, Canada - “Cool concept hotel”, traveled as a couple

Plus side:
- The breakfast is very much continental, but it is included.
- There is wifi.
- The bed was actually VERY comfortable.
- The rooms were modest, but had everything you needed.
- The roof deck is beautiful and, had the weather been better during our visit, we could imagine having drinks up there and enjoying the city.
- It is well located with a reasonable walk from either the Metro or the main train station.

Neutral to Negative:
- The spiral staircase is cool, but steep and can be a challenge with luggage.
- The bathroom was a bit off-setting as the door was glass and when seated on the toilet you didn't have a lot of privacy from the hall. If modesty / privacy is an issue, then this isn't your hotel.

The plus outweigh neutral/negatives!

Norman G - “A great hotel in a great location”

"We stayed at the Hotel Alexandra for three nights in late November during a short break to Copenhagen. The hotel is in a great location and is within easy walking distance to lots of the main sights such as the Tivoli Gardens, the Round Tower and the Christansborg Slot. It is also close to loads of restaurants and the front desk will gladly give you recommendations based on the type of food you want to try.

We stayed in the Collector's Suite which is well worth the extra money for the additional space and the amazing Danish designed furniture and decor. The hotel staff were really helpful with all of our requests, but what made it so special was what happened after we checked out. We had left some jewellery in our room and did not realize it until we arrived home. I contacted the hotel via email and they very quickly responded that they had the jewellery and would send it on to my home address. After providing them with the required details etc. they sent off the package and it arrived safely at our home a couple of weeks later. They kept me fully in touch with what they were doing and gave me the tracking number for the package so that I could monitor progress. Now that is customer service and we will be back at the Hotel Alexandra whenever we return to Copenhagen."

MJDuncan07, Fife, Scotland - “Loved it”, traveled as a couple

"Our first trip away as a couple in over 6 years didn't disappoint with the Alexandra Hotel providing the accommodation. Only a five minute walk from the Metro, we were met by lovely staff who were more than happy to give us advice regards our first visit to the city. Fabulous corner room on the 4th floor with a small balcony & two chairs, perfect for Dec!

Clean, well designed & beautifully furnished. Lovely toiletries, heated bathroom floors and an environmental policy allowing you to opt out of room cleaning. We didn't use restaurant but complimentary glass of wine in the stylish lobby on our return each night was welcome. Great location and although we walked everywhere, bikes readily available for hire to guests."

nickvn, Leeds - “Nice typically Danish hotel”

"The hotel is very centrally located near very nice bars and restaurants. Studiestræde is the street you want to go to which is practically outside the hotel. Here you will find living room and bar 7 which are a must. The hotel is full of Danish designed furniture which gives it a nice homely, but modern feel. Rooms are reasonable, but offer all necessary amenities. When you come back to the hotel after 10 pm, the receptionist gives you a free large glass of red wine or something else if you're not into wine. This was a pleasant surprise which we naturally took advantage of every evening :)"

SkiSierra - “Friendly Hotel in Copenhagen's Center”, traveled with friends

"Nice, quiet and clean room towards the inner court. Small, but well laid out. Friendly and helpful staff gave good recommendations for restaurants and attractions. Hotel is centrally located close to City Hall and most attractions are within easy walking distance (full disclosure: we walk a lot). We did not use car or public transportation during our stay, because it was not needed. Hotel was easy to find once we made it to the center of town: It helps to have a good city map with major access routes before you get into Copenhagen! Maps do not seem to be easily available at gas stations in the outskirts. We found the locals very helpful, excellent English was spoken almost everywhere.

Room Tip: Rooms toward the inner court are quieter, outside ones seem to be bigger, but get more street noise."

Mr_Grey81, Sydney - “Convenient and clean”, traveled as a couple

"The hotel is a 5 - 10 minute walk from central station (with luggage) and we found that it was a comfortable walk to all of the attractions. The convenience of the location can not be over stayed.

The room was of an ok size (small, but as expected), perfectly clean and would be particularly appealing to those with an interest in Danish furniture design. There was a shortage of space for luggage when travelling as a couple. Our room overlooked a major road and, as expected, there was a little bit of noise from the traffic, however it was not enough to interfere with sleep. With the window closed the noise was significantly reduced. Staff were polite and helpful. Despite my original fears, English was not a problem. The beds were warm and comfortable and was a very good size.

The only real negatives I would note:
Security - when you leave the property you're expected to drop off the key however to get the key back all that was needed was the room number. I was a little worried that anyone could walk up and give my room number and have access to my room.

Breakfast - we went for breakfast at the hotel one morning and found that it did not offer big value for money, there was a limited selection and we preferred to visit other cafes in the area. I would certainly stay here again."
